Flt Lt E.C. Deanesly was one of the leading Defiant night fighter pilots together with the Air Gunner William Jack Scott, RNZAF but he was also involved in two incidents on the ground. From the ORB of No.256 Squadron at Squires Gate:

“17/5/41 at 14.30 Flt Lt E.C. Deanesly whilst taxying to hangar collided with a “tea-van” on perimeter track. Very slight damage to aircraft. Van wrecked and its civilian occupant injured”

"14/8/41 Flt Lt E. C. Deanesly, D.F.C., whilst taxying Defiant Aircraft collided with back of bus which had drawn up on perimeter track to allow a pilot to alight. The back of the bus was badly damaged whilst slight damage was caused to the Defiant airscrew and the leading edge of the mainplane. No casualties were caused to the driver of the bus and its two passengers.”

There is no more information in the ORB but I hope someone will be able to confirm the names of the Air Gunners during these two incidents.

Thanks in advance,
