Default “Dépôt central des FFL” in London. Where ?

    Hi,

When the Free French arrived in England in early summer 1940 they have been centralised in a building names “Dépôt central des FFL”. Some weeks later some of them were posted to an hotel called or in “Cordon street”.

I have any idea where were these hostels. One of Free French I met told me that at the Dépôt central des FFL he slept at the 8th floor and in “Cordon street” at the seventh!

Does anybody know the addresses of these buildings in London ?

    Many thanks in advance

I have no proof, but I suspect your 'Cordon Street' is actually 'Gordon Street' in the Bloomsbury area of London. This area contained many buildings (some well over 7 floors!) belonging to London University. Early in WW2 staff and students were evacuated to safer places. I think that this may be where the Depot Central was located. If you look at a photo of the Senate House (London University on Wiki, via Google) you will see even more floors than 8!!!!
I think it might well be a good place a concentrate your researches!
