    Default CWGC site redesign

In case anyone uses it regularly, the CWGC website has had a makeover:

    http://www.cwgc.org

I wondered why it was a bit hit and miss last night. Orange and green - yuk!

The positive thing is that now the search engine is probably better than Geoff's one (allowing searches for a given day as Geoff's does but also a range of days, and allowing searches without any nationality specified).

The very positive thing is that even if all links to a given war dead page have changed, the old link will be redireted to the new page.

Example: il you have stored somewhere
    http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=2265717
(a training casualty in Canada) and clicked it, you ended on the new page:
    http://www.cwgc.org/search-for-war-dead/casualty/2265717/PRITCHARD,%20FRANCIS%20CHARLES
that is the good guy in the new format.

    I won't comment the colors...

It does seem to be more useful in that you can search for a specific name by including first names, rather than just initials as before, and a specific date too.

It does seem to having some teething problems at the moment though - it's just crashed...

I shall send them a well done in the next few weeks I think.

Yes, it's nice to see it redesigned and upgraded - however, it doesn't appear to work properly. I am getting a lot of page not found errors with both Firefox and Explorer.

(And yes, I am still around... still buried in WW1 research.)

there are bound to be errors in the first set up, I've found a man missing from the database, strangly the one sample I took.

Give them a few days before reading the riot act. Its a wonderful plan and when it is working its fabulous.

Absolutely, Dennis. We have a new site going up at work and it's got bugs too - all part of the process. I'm sure they'll get it sorted soon.

To quote Monty Python, it does seem to be 'up and down like the Assyrian Empire' at the moment, but I guess it will have some teething problems to begin with. It is, after all, a pretty big database.

So far though, it's very impressive!

    Default CWGC change

Not sure I like it yet but will have to wait and see when I have used it a few times or searches. The other bits seem much more friendly though

    Default Cwgc

Just went to the CWGC site to look something up, their new site (which was tendered last year) has gone live. The new search function seems to have more options than the previous one.
