210 Sqn Sunderland lost 15/3/41

I am after any information on the loss of a Sunderland? on the 15th March 1941, does anyone have any information on its loss or the crew involved.

If you search on the CWGC website or using Geoff's search engine you will find four 210 Sqn airmen listed for this date.
All but one of them are on Runnymede memorial.

Anyway, I dare say its in Ross CCL V1 so someone will have answer shortly. My copy is at home.

From Coastal Command Losses Vol 1,by Ross McNeill ,Sunderland I,P9624,was recalled 5 hrs into a convoy escort mission and crashed on landing at it's base at Oban,Argyll.The crew were:-
F/O Butcher,Captain,safe
F/Sgt R Bette,Free French A/F pilot,safe
F/Sgt Powell,Nav,safe
F/O F J Swain,W/op,Died
Sgt L Soden,A/G,died(body recovered)
Sgt G G Prescott,A/G,died
AC1 G Morris,A/G,died
As Ross states in his book the crew positions are not always clear from the sources that he used and may need future revision

Sunderland P9624 , FLOWN by F/O (later WG/CMDR), Derek Martin Butcher ,Stalled and crashed and sank on landing on the firth of lorne ,Sea Conditions were calm However ,a Haze had built up at Sea LEVEL which made visibility for landing very difficult 4 crew members were lost presumed drowned and the remainder Inj.
