Default 37715 Wg Cdr H. Peter BLATCHFORD

Following his tenure as Wing Commander Flying of the Digby Wing, 37715 Wg Cdr H. Peter BLATCHFORD was rested between April 1942 and February 1943, before returning to ops as Wing Commander Flying of the Coltishall Wing. Can anyone provide me any information regarding his non-operational postings between April 1942 and February 1943, please?

    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steve,

    Bit of non-answer, really!

Wing Commander Howard Peter Blatchford, DFC.

Then abruptly on the 30th of April (1942), The Canadian Wing was inactivated for what turned out to be full year.

For the next ten months, Blatchford was off operations, spending six months on the ground as a staff officer with one of Fighter Command's Group HQ's. Early in March 1943, he returned to the front line for a second operational tour, this time as a Wing Commander Flying with the Coltishall Wing.

    See:
Canadian Wing Commanders of Fighter Command in World War II.
    Brown,George & Michael Lavigne.
    Langley:Battleline Books,1984.
    p.36

Others might be able to build on it.

    Col.
