    Default 617 crew Avro boardroom

Please can anyone identify the 617 sqn or other aircrew in this photo. I do know some of the names but want to see what anyone else comes up with.

Second from right (with that "wizard prang" 'tache) is probably 'Mickey' Martin? The first AOC I ever knew personally!!

    Photo shows, from left:

(Avro), Tammy Simpson, Toby Foxlee, Don MacLean, Dave Rodger, (Avro), (Avro), Bill Radcliffe, Joe McCarthy, (Avro), Ivan Whittaker, (Avro), (Avro), Mick Martin and (Avro).

Because of the medal ribbons this is likely to be late November 1943 at the very earliest.

I'd guess the Avro bods are possibly some of the test pilots or crew who worked with them. I might be able to pin down dates further.

    Where did it come from?

    Default Avro photo cont;

    Thanks for that airman1.

I got the photo from a fried whos dad worked at avro and was a fitter. In the photo he (Mr Hickson) stands to the left of McCarthy in the boiler suit.

The one you thought was Foxlee I though was Rice. The two Avro chaps extreme left John Fielding (Research Manager} and 5th left Teddy Fielding (No relation ) was the production director.

I'll mull over your findings and post again soon.

    Hi Peter

Interesting. Regarding Rice/Foxlee. As mentioned, the very earliest this will be is late November 1943, although I think I know the occasion and it will be into the spring of 1944. Geoff Rice was in a POW camp by then, shot down on December 20th 1943.

Also, aside from the fact I know its Foxlee, you can tell the gent is an Aussie by the fact that his uniform is darker, and that above the rank stripe on the cuff is a metal eagle and crown, both traits of the RAAF uniform - Rice being RAF.

Regarding Teddy Fielding, did you mean 6th left, in the dark suit?

Are you able to get a bigger/better scan?

    Default 617 cont

Well spotted Foxlee it is. Yes The bloke in the dark suit is Teddy Fielding. Should have spotted the Aussie marking on Foxlee's cuff. Wasn't sure if it was a dark uniform of just shadow. I have a better scan if you pm/e-mail me I will forward it.

    Good work, regards

    Peter
