    Default 430905 - Unaccounted airmen - 5-9-1943

    What were the places of death registration of:

    A - Died on active service:
    Cpl Geoffrey G. DOWSON - 847663 - 995 (Balloon) Sqn (Newhaven & Shoreham), and

    B - Not found in Flight Magazine:
    LAC Jack C. EVANS - 1252475 - age 30, and
    AC1 Thomas JONES - 1480871.

    C - Proposed aircraft losses:
    Beaufighter I - T4711 - 9 (C)OTU - crashed on approach Crosby.
    Beaufort I - L4510 - 5 (C)OTU - crashed on take-off 1 mile SW of Long Kesh.
    Master II - AZ360 - 17 (P)AFU - crashed on approach 1 mile E of Calveley.
    Master II - DK862 - 17 (P)AFU - abandoned Broadshields Farm, Edingale, Staffordshire.
    Wellington X - HE302 - 7 OTU - crashed in forced landing Bellerena, Co. Londonderry.

    D - Also looking for the serial number of a 114 Sqn Boston III (Lentini West, Sicily) missing on a raid to Battipaglia. Missing crew on the Alamein Memorial:
    F/Sgt David W. ANDERSON - 1380174 - Column 269;
    F/Sgt Patrick J. GONE - 1293003 - Column 269;
    F/O Ronald LOFTHOUSE - 123585 - Column 268, and
    F/Sgt Cecil G. SMITH - 778912 (from S.Rhodesia) - Column 270.
    A possibility may have been serial W8287.

    Re: Master II AZ360 - 17(P)AFU.

    AUS422016 F/Sgt (Pilot) John BOYD RAAF involved in this incident. Boyd was slightly wounded (incise wound to scalp), admitted to SSQ Calveley.

    Boyd later served in the Med with No.450 Sqn RAAF. On 28-5-1944, whilst strafing MET, his Kittyhawk IV FX705 was hit and forced-landed in enemy territory. He was posted as missing, but was able to return to his unit on 4-6-1944.

    LAC Jack Charles EVANS - 1252475 - the National Probate Calendar records that he died at Barnsley Hall Emergency Hospital, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
