    Default F/O R D Rutter - Takoradi defence flight

    Hi all,
Does anybody know when did F/O Robert Durham Rutter (42574), (Battle of France, Britain – 73 Sqn) serve with the Takoradi harbour defence flight? During his journey to West Africa “his“ troopship Anselm was torpedoed and sunk 5 Jul 1941. He was picked up and landed in Freetown.
Where was he posted after a cessation of hostilities in Africa?

    Apr - Dec 1944 posted 263 Sqn, F/L , S/L (CO), tour-exp.

    Regards

    Hi Pete,
Thank you very much, but the statement in that article „In April 1943 he took command of No 263's Typhoons, ...“ is a red herring.
F/L Rutter became a flight commander on 263 Squadron in April 1944. His name appeared for the first time in Form 541 on 13 April 44. He was promoted to Squadron Leader to command the squadron on 15 June 44 (Form 540).

I do have some pictures of Takoradi. My father F.Lt then Sq.Ldr CJT Giddings was in transport command at Takoradi; He was also at Bangui - but I can not find out any info on a base at bangui - Anyone got any ideas? He also appears to have beenat Cape Castle, Gold Coast: again any ideas? Tim Giddings (giddingstim@sky.com)
