Default help with plans of airfield

I have the plans of RAF Graveley and need help in some abbreviations.

building 23... AMWD Mess RM & fitters shop
    building 24... AMWD latrines men
    building 25... AMWD stores
    building 26... AMWD latrines women
    building 27... AMWD offices

What are AMWD? it would appear that both male and females worked there, and what is RM?

    TIA for any assistance.

I suggest that RM stands simply for "room"?

Thanks Bill. It seemed to obvious as it was in upper case type. But I'll go along with that.
    Typical RAF though!!

Forgive the audacity of suggesting the 'Wise Elders' may be incorrect but I have always thought the 'D' in AMWD stood for 'Directorate'

    Norman, Hi,
I think you may well be right!!! MPBW, in my days, was always known as "Make the Poor Bu$$ers Wait". And so it came to pass!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Norman,

    I think both are correct.

Directorate was the controlling body at the Air Mininstry

Works and Buildings in the areas were split into Section Offices and these were also known as departments to the rank and file at station.

Peter - your begat was "Outsourced" then begat " not needed as no aerodromes left"
