    Default Wellington VIII LB194

    Hello,

Hoping someone with a copy of A-Bs LA100 to LZ999 Volume, can provide me with a full service history of Wellington VIII (LL) LB194.

    Thanks,

    Errol,

That's a great help. It now pins down the unit - No.179 Sqn. If l might further impose upon your generosity. What can you tell me, if anything, about NZ413891 Sgt J R PRYDE RNZAF?

    Thanks Mate,

    Col.

    Col,

    Some scraps only re Pryde:

    NZ413891 John Robert Pryde
    Born Wairoa 16 Dec 13
Enlisted RNZAF Station Levin as airman pilot u/t 6 Jul 41
    3EFTS
Embarked 'Mariposa' for Canada and SFTS training 20 Oct 41
Commissioned (from Flt Sgt) 1 Jun 44
Reserve (as Fg Off) 25 Aug 45
In 1981 NZ Electoral Rolls described as a farmer at Whakaki (near Wairoa)

    Nothing further

    Errol,

Scraps Fine! Tells me what I need to know. Pryde's full name, and the fact that he was a pilot.

I have the following, with some reservations:

    9-6-1943*
    No.179 Sqn
    Wellington VIII (LL) LB194

Involved in an unknown incident at Gibraltar.

    Crew (Alpha order):

    1384786 Sgt ( - ? - ) Jean Albert Gustave D'ALPUGET RAFVR
    177174 ? Sgt ( - ? - ) - ? - McENROE
    R/100006 Sgt ( - ? - ) - ? - McINTYRE RCAF
    AUS402167 Sgt ( - ? - ) John NEEDHAM RAAF
NZ413891 Sgt (Pilot) John Robert PRYDE RNZAF

    * Needham's undigitised A705 at the NAA quotes the date as 9-6-1942, but that can't be right. No.179 Sqn was not formed until 1-9-1942.

Would appreciate any further information, or corrections on this incident.

Thanks once again for your help.

    Col.
