Default Thomas Robert Nelson, the "Great Escape"

A friend is looking for a photo of Thomas Robert Nelson, of the "Great Escape" fame. Can anyone provide an image or point to a publication/website where such photo could be found?

    Hi
The only thing I can suggest is that you try the Imperial War Museum. There is a site that covers the Great Escape -www.elsham.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gt_esc and this has photos of the 50 who were murdered and all the pictures are attributed to the IWM.They look like i/d photos used on training units or else I/d cards(RAF Form 1250).It is possible that the IWM may have a picture of Nelson who was re-captured and survived.
    Regards

Default Thomas Robert Nelson, the "Great Escape"

My 7 year old son told me last week that he has started to stury WW2 in school and asked if there was a story he could share with his class about the war.

I remembered my grandmother telling me of her cousin Bob Nelson who had escaped in the Great Escape, but as a child I didn't think too much more about it, other than wasn't he lucky to have escaped.

In order to find out about him I decided to "Google" his name and was amazed to discover the depth of his involvement, (and also saw your post) As a result I started to ask older members of the family about him and my Uncle has sent me a photo (taken in Egypt 1942) and a couple of documents that Bob wrote about events that he had been involved in.

If you would like a copy of the photo please let me know.

    regards
    Julie-Ann

A good website with much information of the Great Escape by Rob Davis .Nelson is mentioned but no photo http://www.elsham.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gt_esc/index.html

    Another site ---
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Allied_airmen_from_the_Great_Escape .Nelson is mentioned.

My distant Australian cousin, Keirath, was one of the many recaptured and shot with his friend, another Australian and a Polish man .

Paul Brickhill, the Australian author, was in the same camp [ The Great Escape ,Reach for the Sky ,The Dambusters ] He had been at a Sydney high school with my father .
