    Hi Norman,

    Nothing on No.48 Air School in the AIR 54 series.

    However there are the ORBs and Appendices for No.42 Air School.

    I've added the index post to the new SAAF section

    [QUOTE=malcolm_raf;75722]Hi Norman

    The school was actually called No 48 Air School at Woodbrooke, East London. It was an Elementary Air Navigation School.

    It was a SAAF school but it's two OCs were RAF, Gp Capt P W Bale and Wg Cdr L V Bennett.

    I assume the records would be held in South Africa

    Hi Malcolm,

    I am trying to track down my grandfather. He was in the RAF He was sent to 48 Air scool east london between 1942-1945, as an instructor to train the SAAF piolts. The problem is we dont know his name, so i was wondering how many RAF instructors were there ? Or was the 2 mensioned above the only 2. Which means 1 of them should be my grandfather. If so, do you have any photo's of any of the instructors as I am apparently a spitting image of him in his day.

    Thank you for your time, any information would be of assistance

    Hi Andrew

    There would have been other RAF personnel at 48 AS and since my original post I have found that the SAAF Air School War Diaries can now be downloaded free from the National Archives website so you could get hold of the documents and look through them yourself.
