    Default Beaufighter serial numbers required

    Hi guys

I'm looking for the serial numbers of the following Beaufighters of 47 and 603 Squadrons lost during 1943/1944 in operations over the Aegean (amended):

    47 Squadron
    D shot down 5/11/43
    B shot down 5/11/43
    A shot down 13/11/43
    D shot down 13/11/43
    ? shot down 30/1/44
    ? shot down 13/2/44

    603 Squadron
    E shot down 17/10/43

Also, which squadron lost NV151 on 5/1/44?

Any help at all will be very much appreciated.

    Cheers
    Brian

    Hi Brian,

    603 squadron - (Beaufighter) Y - shot down 6/11/1943.

    6-11-1943
    No.603 Squadron
    Beaufighter T.F.X. LX998 'Y'

Ditched on shipping strike off Paros, after shooting down an Ar196.

AUS400924 P/O (Pilot) Keith Isaac Eula HOPKINS RAAF (later DFC)*
AUS401153 P/O (Nav.) Keith Vidmore ROGET RAAF

Both men picked up by a British submarine and later taken to Malta, returning to 603 Sqn a week later.

    * http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/36285/supplements/5437

The Air ministry stated: P/O Hopkins, with his navigator Keith Roget**, also of Mebourne, had been in a rubber dinghy for several hours when a British submarine came to the surface alongside them. The Commander of the submarine had seen the airmen take to their dinghy, and waited until dusk to rescue them. P/O Hopkins said, "I could not have been more surprised if Hitler came down the chimney dressed as Santa Claus."

See: The Age (Melbourne). December 18, 1943. p.1.

** Keith Roget's younger brother, AUS400333 Sgt Raymond George Marafu ROGET RAAF, was lost mining in French waters off Lorient on 22-6-1942, in Wellington IV Z1383 (See: BCL3/130).
