    Default RAF Training (1943/1945)

I understand that ACSB's were established in Oxford, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Blackpool, Penarth, Weston-Super-Mare (Doncaster), Cardington and London (Euston). [Source: CG Jefford "Observers and Navigators"]

Firstly, does anyone have the ACSB numbers for each of these locations? Secondly, were there any other locations?

Finally, if the ACSB's were not sited at a Recruit Centre, where were they sited?. A case in point is Edinburgh where there was no Recruit centre (as far as I can tell)

Any help would be much appreciated

    By 1944 they were: -

Nos 4 & 7 Aviation Candidate Selection Board - RAF Cardington
    Nos 26, 27 & 28 Aviation Candidate Selection Board - RAF Birmingham

The Centres in London (Euston), Edinburgh, Birmingham etc were originally known as Combined Recruit Centres (CRC) and covered all three services, therefore not purely RAF.

    Thanks for the information Malcolm

I am now onto the next stage of research and wondered if anyone was able to identify:

    (a) which Initial Training Wings dealt with the PNB Scheme, as I understand that they took over the role of assessing aircrew (previously undertaken at EFTS) before they were sent overseas for training.

    (b) which Initial Training Wings dealt with Wireless Operators

As usual, any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    Pete
