Good morning, my name is Phil Hughes, I am trying to find information on my wifes grandfather, named above. He served at the RAF Balloon base at Wythall near Birmingham in WW2. Any info, references or photos would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Phil, Hi,
Not a lot known (in depth) about Balloon Command.
Malcolm's rafweb site (http://www.rafweb.org/Sqn900.htm) is the most easily accessible source of info.
No 6 Balloon Centre was at Wythall (south of Birmingham). It was in 33 Group (HQ Sheffield), and controlled 4 Sqns (2 (914 and 915) in Birmingham, and 2 (916 and 917) in Coventry.).
James Dean is a relatively common name, but if you've got a Service Number then you might be able to go a bit further.
