Default Serial Numbers of 23 Sqn Blenheim and Havocs

    Hi,

No.23 Squadron’s ORB has no information about serial numbers I therefore need some help to identify following aircraft.

    Blenheim If
    YP-X flown by P/O John Brown, 25 February 1941

    Havoc I
YP-D flown by F/Lt Bertie Rex OŽBryen Hoare, 3 May 1941
YP-B flown by F/Lt Bertie Rex OŽBryen Hoare, 12 May 1941
YP-B flown by P/O W.A. Bird, 13 August 1941 – probably the same a/c as above but it can be a replacement
YP-A flown by F/Lt Bertie Rex OŽBryen Hoare, 13 September 1941

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

These may of course be replacements or forerunners with the same code letters, but 'Fighter Squadrons of the RAF' by J. D. R. Rawlings has:

    Blenheim 1f L8617 for YP-X
    Havoc 1 BD124 for YP-D

    Simon and Ian,

    Thanks for the replies.

I have the unit history but unfortunately no information about code letters or serial numbers.

Have you checked the combat reports ? as I note at least one of the occasions listed was a combat and I guess the others are also. Mostly serial Nos are listed along with details of the combat. Some (all ?) are available online at the NA.

Yes, all dates are from combats. I have these combat reports but unfortunately no serial numbers and just one with code letters.
