Default can anyone add meaning to this.....

it is an extract fron an orb-probably flown by A P Cranswick.

"Aircraft ND846-TL-J, operating as “Bomber”, departed Graveley 00.34 hours and returned 05.05 hours . 16x500 GF. 2x500 GP LD. 02.50.30 hours . 7,000 feet. 090 M. 150 knots . Weather: 10/10ths cloud. Base 7,000 feet. Target identified by yellow target indicator which coincided with GKE fix. Red and green target indicator seen to south of glow of yellow target indicator in the smoke which obscured the area. Master Bomber heard to instruct to bomb yellow seen in bombsight, and to ignore the “flak”. Little bombing seen owing to smoke. "

i think the GKE should be GEE, particulary interest in payload designation GF and GP LD,
possibly ground force, general purpose low drag!7,000 feet 090M 150knots; flying at 7,000 feet bearing 090magnetic at 150knots?

    thanks in advance.

    Hi Paul

The GF is probably supposed to be GP - General Purpose

I suspect LD is Long Delay. Low drag bombs were a post war thing. At 150 knots who cares?

I agree with your assessment of course, speed and altitude.

Bomber Intelligence, by WE Jones, lists the following in relation to fuzes / timings, which may be of assistance:

    N.D.0.01 (Nose, delay, 0.01 seconds)
    N.inst (Nose, instantaneous)
    T.inst (Tail, instantaneous)
    T.D.0.01 (Tail, delay, 0.01 seconds)
    T.D.2 (Tail, delay, 2 seconds)
    L.D. (Long delay)

I understand that the bomb pistols could be fitted in the nose, or the tail, hence the differentiation (not sure what the differing effects were though)
