Default Accident with a Spitfire and a Martinet, 16 september 1943, Biggin Hill

    Hi,

On 16 september 1943, a section of 2 Spitfire landing in formation on Biggin Hill airfield when the number 2 collided with the Miles Martinet MK 1 HP117 on ground.

Does anybody know the serial and unit of the Spitfire involved ?

The pilot of this Spit having to take violent evasive action in order to avoid a more serious accident.

    Thanks in advance

Air Britain EA 100-EZ999 Lists this aircraft with .611,485,66Sqd and 17 APC it was SOC ,17/6/48,

The Martinet belonging to 341 Sqd , and the Spitfire Belonging to 485 Sqd , so the 1180 states .

    Hello All,

HP117's AM78 does not have this Martinet allotted to No.341 Sqn but to Biggin Hill Station Flight. It would appear this aircraft may have been on temporary charge whilst 341 was operating out of Biggin?

    Kind regards,

    Tim

    hi,

Even if the pilot posted some weeks before to n341 sqdn this records of service gives Gunnery Flight of station of Biggin Hill for most of august and september 1943.

I never saw this MArtinet in all the 341's logbooks I studied.
