Default Request WWII abbreviation decode & locations

    Evening All

Grateful for any assistance is "decoding" the following abbreviations* / confirming location

    1. * AH NCO Def OS at Filey (Believe this to be the Aircrew Reception Centre?)

    2. 26 EFTS(A) (Believe this to be Guinea Fowl, Rhodesia? - not sure what the additional "A" signifies tho'? )

    3. 50 Grp Pool (Req location?)

    4. * CTBA Ludlow (request decode)

    Thanks in advance for co-operation

    Kind Rgds

AH NCO Def OS I would suggest something along the lines of Aircrew Holding NCO Defence(?) Operations(?) Section(?)
EFTS (A) is Elementary Flying Training School, not sure what the (A) is for.

50 Group Pool was at RAF Watchfield in Berkshire in 1940 but depends when you are looking for.

Cant find anything to match the others, interestingly I have found a ref to 26 EFTS existing in both Canada and Rhodesia.
Suggest you put dates next to each one Ludlow was an aircrew camp and then became a care and maintenance unit.

    Regards

The (A) after EFTS means 'Attached' which means he wasn't posted onto the establishment of the EFTS.

Ludlow was a large tented camp used to hold personnel awaiting courses who were then used to help on farms and other labouring activities.

No 21 Air Crew Holding Unit was at Filey Camp in 1944
No 5 AA Practice Camp was also at Filey
No 1 Ground Defence Gunners School reformed in Feb 1943 (how about AA NCO Def GS rather than AH NCO Def OS?)
