    Hi Dietz,

According to Chorley's books the aircraft was shot down by a night fighter into the sea E of Heligoland. The skipper F/L R R Howgill DFC is buried in Kiel War Cemetery, F/O W D Christie is buried in Hamburg War Cemetery, the rest tare on the Runnymead Memorial.

The Aussie J D W Reno 411381, his service file is on line at the National Australian Archives, but not his crash file, it wil cost you 16.50 AUS $ to get on line. Theo Boiten has it shot down by Maj Gunther Radusch of StabII./NJG3.

    Regards,

    John.

The RAAF airman lost on No.100 Sqn. on 2/3-8-1943 was, AUS411381 P/O (W.Op./Air Gnr.) James Darcy William RENNO DFM (not RENO) RAAF.

A useful summation on this loss can be found here*:

    http://www.awm.gov.au/catalogue/research_centre/pdf/rc09125z019_1.pdf

    see: p.409 of 535

    * Storr's statement that; All No.100 Sqn aircraft returned to base safely except ED705, is incorrect. No.100 Sqn also lost Lancaster III ED688 on this raid. Also carefully check other data, ie. Hope/Howe, Gardiner/Gardner etc..

Theo Boiten mentions Radusch's claim only as a probability at this stage, and it should be treated as such. His revised work might have something more positive.

Also worth a look, is the following:

It should also be noted, that the Sgt H R RAVEN, mentioned by Bill Chorley in BCL4/256, is in fact; R/108752 Sgt (Air Gunner) Harold Roy RAVEN RCAF.
