Default Info two Lancaster losses 26-27.9.44 Karlsruhe raid

Hello and a very good morning to you all!

When I was reading the Bomber Command Interceptions/Tactics report for 26-27 September 1944, I found some interesting details about the cause of loss of the two Main Force aircraft that failed to return from the Karlsruhe raid. Re. the first loss, 619 Squadron Lancaster ED602, it was stated that this may have blown up off the Somme on the outward route -a number of bomber crews saw an aircraft blowing up. The second loss, 467 Squadron Lancaster LM239, was reportedly due to a night fighter over the target, but I must add that no German claim exists that could confirm this.

I would like to know any details on the cause of loss of both these heavies. (I do have the details from Chorley's 1944 volume)

    Cheers & thanks, Theo

    Hi Col,

Very interesting, cheers & thanks for that, this clearly gives the cause of loss of LM239 as Flak over target..

    Cheers, Theo
