Default Info on four losses 25-26.8.44 Darmstadt & Rüsselsheim raids?

    Dear all,

I am looking for any info on the crash locations, plus cause & time of loss of the following four 'heavies' that failed to return from the 25-26 August 1944 Darmstadt and Rüsselsheim raids (I already have all crew details):

-57 Squadron Lancaster LM579 (Darmstadt raid).
-90 Squadron Lancaster LM588 (Rüsselsheim raid).
-300 Squadron Lancaster LM172 (Rüsselsheim raid).
-300 Squadron Lancaster JB561 (Rüsselsheim raid).

Cheers & thanks for any info!

Any Australians on any of them? Have you checked their casualty files on the Australian National archives if there are.

    Hello Dennis,

I've chekced this, but no, no Aussies in any of these four crews; rear gunner on LM172 was a Canadian (RCAF), and one of the crew of JB561 was Polish (PAF), remainder all RAF!

Crew of LM588 initially buried at Groß Gerau.
LM172 Stadtgebiet Landau-Pfalz - 0042hrs - crew first buried Landau. One body (PETERS) found near the Panzerkaserne Landau.
JB561 may have come down in the Rüsselsheim area.
    Regards,
    Henk.
