Default 754236 Sgt Plt Leslie Raymond CARTER, 74 Sqn

Does anyone have / have access to the 74 Sqn ORB for January to July 1941, please?

754236 Sgt Plt Leslie Raymond CARTER was KIA with this Squadron on 6 July 1941, but it is not 100% clear when he joined the unit. It may have been 9 May 1941, but I am seeking (i) confirmation of this date, and (ii) hopefully, a statement in the 74 Sqn ORB on his arrival about which unit he was posted from (hopefully/theoretically 41 Sqn).

    Can anyone help, please?

    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steve,

I don't have the ORB but if you google your man and his service number you'll find a site "southeastecho" which answers your questions.

    Regards,

    Dave

    Hi Dave

Thanks for posting, but it actually doesn't answer my questions. A lot of Peter Brown's information on 41 Squadron pilots on his Southeast Echo site comes from me, anyway.

However, the fact he states Carter joined 74 Squadron in Janury 1941 (without an exact date), whereas my data states May, makes a check of the 74 Sqn ORB all the more necessary. I also have evidence of the fact that he was off operational flying on doctors orders until at least mid-Feb 1941, so I think on this occasion the information on the Southeast Echo site might be inaccurate.

    Thanks

    Hello Steve,

I have May to July 1941, for No. 74 Squadron lost a few pilots in my area.

I can confirm that "Sgt Carter posted to 74 Squadron for flying duties." on 9th May 1941.

    Hope this helps

    Joss

    Thanks Joss

I assume that's a quote from the ORB, and there's no evidence of the unit he was posted from?

    Thanks

    Hello Steve,

Indeed, that was a verbatim quote from the form 540, between " ", and no mention of previous units. The units from or to, are mentioned for other postings, but unfortunately not for Carter.

Thanks Joss; I appreciate your confirmation of that fact.
