    Default Anson brake system

Did the Mk. I Anson use pneumatic brakes? I'm trying to understand an RCAF document that says an Anson overran the landing due to "not enough air pressure".

Yes it did. Operation was via an air bottle which I believe had to be charged before flight. There was no provision for charging in flight.
    cheers

    Hi Bill,

An air reservoir was mounted vertically on brackets secured to the forward port side of the fuselage forward bulkhead (other side of frame A).

It was charged prior to flight but had no engine supply so this was all the air the pilot had to use.

Over use of brakes taxying or a leak in the system quickly led to no stopping.

    Regards
    Ross

I wonder how many accidents were caused in those days because somebody charged the bottle with oxygen, having first oiled the threads!!!!!!!!

Based on some post war incidents with very high pressure oxygen, that would result in a fire - not an over run.
