Pavel, the Navigator was F/O H.A. Lake who survived after baling out. The a/c crashed in the Netherlands but no actual place identified in 'Last Take Off' by Colin Cummings acknowledged.

    Pavel,

From my 'For Your Tomorrow - A record of New Zealanders who have died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services since 1915 (Volume Three: Biographies & Appendices)':

    Thu 19 Mar 1953
    2ND TACTICAL AIR FORCE
    Exercise JUNGLE KING
68 Squadron, RAF (Wahn, Germany - 83 Group)
Meteor NF.11 WD676 - took off, climbed to 35,000 feet but some five minutes later began flying erratically. The navigator requested the pilot to check his oxygen regulator and this was acknowledged. The aircraft, however, then went into an inverted spin. Although the pilot acknowledged this fact with the navigator control was not regained. The navigator baled out, WD676 breaking up as it continued its descent. The pilot’s body was found near the wreckage, which came down in the Netherlands near Kampen. He had apparently also abandoned the aircraft and pulled his rip cord, but at too low a height for his parachute to deploy. It is not known where he was buried or if cremated.

    Col/Pavel,

Many thanks for this place of cremation info.

Cremated at Cologne, then, but ashes possibly returned to New Zealand rather than buried at Cologne?
