    Default Demons K8185/K8188 64 Sqn 7 August 1938

    All

64 Sqn lost 4 Demons on night of 6/7th August 1938 when crews were ordered to abandon aircraft in the early hours due to fog

    The ORB lists the 4 aircraft as: K8200, K8199, K8201 and K8188

The internet suggests the last one as K8185 (source AB)

Can someone please provide the full AB K File history for these last two?
K8188 /K8185 - I want to know if both served on 64 Sqn - It is possible AB has trascription error as ORB is quite clear

    Many thanks

    Paul,

Can't help with the numbers, but The Times carries a long item on events/accidents that night. One of your aircraft made a forced landing near Digby, so it was only three crews that took to the silk. In another incident that night a Harrow of 37 Sqn crashed near Bury St Edmunds with five fatalities, whilst a Battle of 88 Sqn crashed at Blackmore, near High Onger, killing one of the three crew. All those involved in the fatal accidents are named.

Later on the 7th a Hector (s/n 9759) of 13 Sqn was reported missing after taking off from Sealand.

    Not a good 36 hours.

    Apologies if you are aware.

Thanks for your input but in this case the Times is wrong 4 crews bailed out ORB Confirms

Hector Pilot was Pilot-Officer St. Quentin Robinson Serial I think is K9759

    AB has --

    K 8188 64 Sqn then 1 AAS and became 2459M

    K 8185 64 Sqn then Hucknall. SOC 5.11.38

    Lists K8199, K8200, K8201 as abandoned in fog 7.8.38, all 64 Sqn

Peter thanks for that looks like a typo in the ORB the compiler put k8188 instead of k8185. Btw very detailed description of incident in orb indicates to me an element of covering the sqn backside In case of comeback from above
