    Default RAF Chivenor Losses 1942 / 1944

    Hi,

I hope that someone can help? I have been allowed to look at the personal diary of an airman who was at RAF Chivenor between 1942 and 1944. He appeared to log crashes during this period and there are a couple of intriguing entries which I hope can be resolved? They are:

18 December 1942 Beaufighter VI No.235 Sqn / B Flg Off Janssens FTR escort patrol (no serial?)
18 December 1942 Beaufighter VI No.235 Sqn / K Flt Sgt Woodcock FTR escort patrol (no serial?)

7 May 1944 Fortress "crashed on airfield in early hours of morning"

    These two are barely legible:

8 May 1944 Wellington XIV No.612 Sqn / R FTR (Sqn Ldr Thompson?) following engagement with Ju88s (no serial)

14 June 1944 Wellington XIV No.172 Squadron (Pt Off Payne) FTR AS patrol

Any help with the above would be greatly appreciated?

The Beaufighters were T5256 and JL442.

    Dave,

    Thank you very much.

The diary was quite fascinating and it would seem that the Chivenor Beaufighter squadrons were having a fairly bad time during that period as I have just spotted 2 December 1942 Beaufighter VI EL330 "failed to return". NFD.

    Rgds,
