During a recent houseclearing in Blackpool, I came across the kitbag of CPL Ablitt. I would guess it has been there since the late 1940's. I would love to get it back to his family. Any leads?

Ron, Hi,
Welcome to the Forum.
Not an easy job, this one. He Enlisted (546798) sometime shortly after Oct 1939. That number does not come up (for me) in the LG, so it seems he was never Commissioned, or got a gong or MiD. He doesn't come up in CWGC - so it seems he survived the War.
I tried to find him in TNA AIR 78/1 (as Ross has suggested) in order to try to get Forenames, but even though I used two separate computers the TNA would not play ball with me. Don't know if anyone is getting the same problems (pages of "SAMPLE" in stead of data). The Forenames would enable one to find place/date of Birth Registration (ditto Marriage/Death).
However, looking at the BT Residential Fone numbers in the Harwich/Dovercourt/Felixstowe areas shows one Ablitt still there (there was, at one time, quite a 'nest' of Ablitt's thereabouts). You might have to risk a 'cold call' to the number!! (Or write to the address) The least that can happen is that you will be told to go forth and multiply - but in our pursuit of Met Casualties we've had some limited success with this method.
Not a lot to go on, I'm afraid - but better than a kick in the teeth. Somebody, somewhere, knows of this guy - it's just a question of tapping on the right bit of woodwork!!

Ron, Hi,
Yr man is probably:-
Civil registration event: Birth

Registration district: [?] Tendring
County: Essex
Year of registration: 1919
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's maiden name: Buckle
Volume no:[?]4A Page no:[?]1581
Civil registration event: Marriage
Name: ABLITT, Charles A
Registration district: [?] Harwich
County: Essex
Year of registration: 1946
Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Spouse's last name Falzon
Volume no: [?] 4A
Page no: [?] 1570
MarriageFinder™: [?] Charles A Ablitt married Frances X Falzon
Civil registration event: Death
Name: ABLITT, Charles Arthur
Registration district: [?] North Walsham
County: Norfolk
Year of registration: 1991
Month of registration: May
Date of Birth:9 November 1919
Volume no: 10 Page no: 1597 Reg no: 591
This is not due to any brilliancy on my part, but simply to our Great Leader taking the time and trouble to tell me how to interpret TNA data - and then me taking it from there!
Let us know if you manage to connect the kit-bag with rellies/descendants!

Ron, Hi,
Further to my last, there appears to have been children of the marriage, to whit:-
Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
Births Jun 1948 (>99%)
Ablitt Elizabeth C Falzon Harwich 4a 943
Births Mar 1955 (>99%)
ABLITT Anthony P Falzon Blackpool 10b 548
Anthony P Ablitt may be the Blackpool connection (re yr house clearing)?

Thanks very much for the lead. I will follow it up. I particulary like the Blackpool connection. I will let you know how I get on.

I have now reunited his family with the kit bag. They were thrilled to have it. Many thanks for your help. I doubt I could have done it without your help.
