    Not much and perhaps not the best source, but Men of The Battle of Britain seems to match what you have but suggests that he went to Oxford after the War to read English which I guess would take out several years.

    It also has 1.1.43 not 44 for award of AFC.

    Thanks for the additional information re Oxford.

    In this case, however, Men of the Battle of Britain is wrong re the date of the AFC. The London Gazette confirms 1 Jan 1944 is the correct date.
