    Default RAF hospital Halton 1940

    Hi all,

I am trying to research an airman that was shot down in July 1940 and ended up staying at the RAF Hospital at Halton for some weeks. (FO C D Whittingham 151 squadron).

Can any forum users tell me how or where I could locate information relating to his injuries or his time at Halton?

Unfortunately I have been unable to identify the location where he is buried and consequently cannot get access to his death certificate to write to RAF records.

Any help would be gratefully received.

    Cheers
    Gerry

    Hi John,
    Thanks for your reply.
I have recently discovered that he was registered living in Kirkcolm in Scotland.
Certainly his death was registered there on April 8th 1958 and I have obtained a copy of the certificate.
At that time he was married to a lady named Barbara Duncan.
Alas I am still unable to trace the location of his burial place, perhaps he was buried down in Paignton?

The information that you have re Paignton in Devon is something that I have come across before.
I have often wondered if this is the same person or a complete coincidence.

    I shall investigate further.

    Regards

    Gerry

I have checked the probate registers entry (under greater magnification) and whilst he was living in Paignton he died at Kirkcolm. There is also a RAC licence photo of him.

    Hi John,
I have a copy of the RAC photo thanks.
I am intrigued where you have found the information confirming that he died at Kirkcolm whilst residing in Paignton.
I know he farmed in Devon before his death in 1958.

Ancestry Probate records give the address of the person, where he died, his executors who I suspect were brothers and his estate.

    Hi John,
Could you possibly send me a copy of this as I don't have it?
It may help me narrow down where he was buried/cremated.
I want to place flowers at the site.
    Many thanks

    Hi John,
    Cheers for that.
His death register has him as being married to a Barbara Duncan, possibly his third wife.
I would love to be able to finally trace his grave and place flowers on it.
I appreciate your assistance with my research.
    Many thanks

I have a copy of the National Burial Index but unfortunately it is refusing to work. If some one has a copy they may be able to help you.

I have found wife 1 Margaret E. Gee last quarter 1938 and wife 2 Hilda Roberts third quarter 1947 but nothing for No.3
