    Default Crew of Hampden P1273 / PL-Q September 5, 1942.

Does anyone have a full crew listing for the 144 Sqn Hampden P1273 / PL-Q, lost en-route UK to Russia on 5/9/42?
I know the pilot was Canadian - (Sgt?) Hank Bertrand and the aircraft was also carrying a ground engineer, George Deforges, both of whom survived by parachuting from the aircraft. Can anyone else fill in the missing crew names?
    Many thanks,
    Tom

    Sorry - next question...
I had thought that some of the crew were killed when this Hampden was shot down but I can't find any of them via CWGC - they all survived then....?
    Regards,
    Tom

    Hello,

I have the pilot as Henry Lewis Bertrand, 10772247. W/O in 1945. Born 17th May 1919, joined 1st November 1940. Private address given as "Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada". So he must he have been a "CAN/RAF" (a direct enlistment of a Canadian in the R.A.F.)

He gives his date and place of capture as "Finland 6/9/42".

    Dulag Luft 23/9/42 - 2/10/42
    Stalag 344 4/10/42 - 22/1/45
    Stalag VIIIA Gderlitz 4/2/45 - 9/4/45

and he was also in working camps during his capture. He made several escapes attempts.

from his PoW questionnaire in WO 344/27/1 in Kew

It's the only one I have "in store" in my hard disk.

    Regards

    That's fantastic - many thanks.
And so good to read that they all made it...
