    Default Wellington X / MF625/C Lost 12-Sep 1944

    Hi All,

I'm looking for the missing crew members of the above 70 Sqn Wellington which was lost on a sortie to Bologna. I have :-

    Pilot - Sgt SMITH, A.J. (1603158) +
    Navigator - Sgt WYNN, K. G. (1399423) +
    Air Bomber - Sgt LANCASTER H. (1213549) +
    Air Gunner - AC2 GENT, F.A. (1593804)

Those lost are buried in the Sangro River War Cemetery. I have Sgt GENT's logbook & he states two survivors, so does anyone know who the name of the other survivor? and was another crew member lost (so six man crew)?

    Thanks in advance
    Dave

The other survivor was Sgt G Dinerstein, the wireless operator. I met him at an Air Britain talk I gave in London in 1988 about 40 Sqn and 205 Group. He said he and Sgt Gent (note) the rear gunner, were seriously injured. The crash occurred when, on approach to land, both engines cut simultaneously.

Wellington crews were always five man, unless a green second pilot flew with them for operational experience.
