Default S/no. of 152 Sqdn Spitfire.

    Hi,

Can anyone help me please with the serial number of the Spitfire Mk II being flown by Sgt H.T.Sturt, 404963, RNZAF, of 152 Squadron when he crashed in the sea off the Hook of Holland on 10/1/42 ?

The departure airfield for the sortie would be helpful too. I have seen Eglinton quoted, but this seems unlikely to me.
The Squadron was at Coltishall late in December 1941, and may still have been there on 10 January, 1942.

    Thanks in advance.

    angels one five.

From my 'For Your Tomorrow - A record of New Zealanders who have died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services since 1915 (Volume One: Fates 1915-1942)':

    Sat 10 Jan 1942
    Fighter Command

    ‘Jim Crow’ - Shipping reconnaissance
152 Squadron, RAF (Coltishall, Norfolk - 12 Group)
Spitfire IIA P8266 - took off at 1145 and lost without trace, the pilot being commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
Pilot: NZ404963 Sgt Henry Twite STURT, RNZAF - Age 21.

And from Vol Three (Biographies & Appendices):

    – whilst flying at low level, hit the water and crashed into the sea 1.5km NW of Hoek van Holland at 1337.
