Google throws out a 8 December 2001 death of a Squadron Leader J36183 Frank P. Ashton, DFC, aged 84:

However, the only Ashton on the RCAF Honours and Awards database is a DFC for Pilot Officer J17890 Joel Hilton Ashton. There is no DFC (or any other award listed) for Frank Ashton.

Perhaps Hugh Halliday will see this and be able to add something.

Notwithstanding the obituary notice, I see no award to Frank P. Ashton (who was indeed a member of the RCAF), nor is anyone of that name listed in Maton's HONOUR THE AIR FORCES.
