Default Fairey Albacore lost 22 may 1941

    Hi all,

On the May 22th of 1941, a fairey albacore (N4256 ?) was lost in front of Arbroath (Scotland)

What was the FAA squadron of this Albacore : 817 or 785 sq ?

Does anyone knows the names of the three crew members ?

    Regards

    Michel LT

These Naval personnel are listed on the Lee on Solent memorial for the date in question, they were assigned to HMS Jackdaw. The Fleet Air Arm Roll of Honour gives squadron details, the pilot being 817 and the two others as 785 (Granier is given as Grant on the RoH).

    Robert Melville Scott Brewer - Lieutenant (A) - Age 24 - Pilot - 817
Eric Gordon Essex Collyer - Leading Airman FAA/FX77501 - Age Unknown - Air Gunner - 785
    George Raymond Granier - Leading Airman P/JX207052 - Age 22 - Air Gunner - 785
