Default An Hight Ranking Officer with an eye-patch

    Hello,

I have a picture of some Officers of 5 Group, year 1944, where one had an eye patch....
I think he was minimum a Wing Co, do you have an idea of who he was ??

    Thank you, Alain.

Well the man it might have been is (finally) Air Cdre C B Brown, known as 'Cyclops' for obvious reasons. Another could possibly be Wg Cdr E C Rideal.

Any evidence of medal ribbons or aircrew flying badge which might help?

    Hi Colin,

Cyril B. Brown did not attain the rank of Wing Commander until July 1946. The highest rank he seems to have held during the war was Acting Squadron Leader (RAFVR).

Right, well that's Cyclops ruled out. It could be that the officer was only wearing the eye patch as a temporary measure, rather than because he's lost the sight of an eye.

Is it left eye or right?

Wasn't there a chap called Burns or some such who lost an eye and continued to fly?

Any clues re uniform, flying badges, medals etc, as per my earlier post?

    Hello,

the eye patch was on the right eye...he had a pilot brevet, three bands on the leaves of his uniform near the hands....
    So .....
Thank you for your investigations !

    Alain
