Default Monday 5 June 1939, Gloucestershire Echo Report "AIRMAN'S PARACHUTE ESCAPE"

    All

I have the following report from Monday 5 June 1939, in the Gloucestershire Echo

    "AIRMAN'S PARACHUTE ESCAPE
,single-seater R.A.F. aeroplane dived into a field near the main Basingstoke-Winchester road Popham, six miles from Basingstoke to-day, and then bounced towards the road. The pilot descended by parachute and was unhurt. "

Can anyone ID this incident? I only have 1 baleout for June 5, 1939 Petty Officer Airman Jack Hadley in Skua L2876 over North Waltham, Norfolk on this date but obviously not . It could be 4th June I suppose

    Many thanks

    Paul

    Paul,
    you have the correct incident!
North Waltham is the other side of the Basingstoke to Winchester road from Popham, they are both in Hampshire.

    Sean.

Thanks all cleared up original report (from goodness knows when) had SKUA L2876 of 800Sqn abandoned over North Waltham, Norfolk - this is a mis ident for North Waltham, Hampshire. Someone assumed it was a typo from North Walsham which is in Norfolk
