    Default DH 9A Identity

On 14 November 1930, a DH9A crashed and burst into flames at Hawkinge. The accident was attributed to the aircraft "colliding with a haystack on the outskirts of the aerodrome" while en-route Filton to Hawkinge. The pilot, Pt Off G Warrington, escaped injury when he was thrown clear. Can I please ask if anyone can provide me with the serial of this particular DH 9A?

    Thank you in advance.

Can't help with ID but Pilot:Pt Off G N Warrington was transferring the DH9a from 501 Sqn to Hawkinge (all the DH9a's had just been replaced by Wapiti) however the incident is not in 501 Sqn ORB

    From ABS 'J Serials'

J8491 of 501s, ferrying to storage, struck haystack when landing in mist at Hawkinge, and burnt out

    Accident date recorded at 07-Nov-1930

Date is 7th November 1930 as per RAF Serials NOT 14th November 1930

Two newspapers printed 8th November 1930 say ' late yesterday afternoon.'

"G N Warrington" is George Ninian Warrington #28101 later Group Captain

Paul: Thank you for the additional details. The ORB records the dates of his service with the squadron but, unfortunately, does not mention the accident. Only two DH 9A serials have been noted as serving with 501 Squadron and it could be good to identify some more?
