    Default MSFU equipment 1942-1943?

Can someone tell me, please, which aircraft the MSFU was flying between May 1942 and April 1943?

    Thanks

I believe they were Mk 1 (and Sea Hurricane IA). But don't quote me on that as my Hurricane book isn't to hand at the moment. Will get back to you unless someone else knows.

    Hi Steve

According to "Flying Training and Support Units" - Formed 5.5.41 at Speke in No. 9 Group (it has a bit more info on movements if required) and it had an operational establishment of 50 Sea Hurricanes, a training establishment of 3 Hurricane I and 2 Sea Hurricane plus 1 communication a/c - disbanded 7.9.43 - it also has a few serials and the codes used were KE, LU, NJ and XS.

    Hope this helps

    cheers

The MSFU pool at RCAF Station Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, received Canadian built Sea Hurricane Mk. 1a aircraft starting in November 1941. Most of these were transferred to the RCAF following Pearl Harbor, and became Hurricane Mk. XIIA as they were converted to RCAF standards. The operational aircraft were Sea Hurricane Mk.Ia by definition: catapult spools but no arrester gear. Mk.Ib on the fleet carriers had both.

There were Fulmars on catapults for similar duties too, but those were on specific RN vessels.

Thanks Gentlemen; just what I was seeking.

I am in touch with the son of a Canadian 41 Squadron pilot, who left 41 for the MSFU, and am putting together details on his subsequent career.

    Cheers
