Default Sgt Jan Lepkowski 706805 PAF

    Hi

I am trying to find out some info on this Polish Airman for his son.

I have found out that he was a PAF Wireless Operator Pokt ( Pokt does anyone have any idea what this means) but cannot ascertain his Squadron etc. I did find his date of Birth (it is 01-06-14) for his son which he didn't even have as all his paperwork etc was stolen some time ago and never really investigated before this.

He did say that he was in the 8th Army in the Middle east after escaping Poland via Syria etc and transfered to the RAF from there and from his service number I would estimate that would be circa June 1942 ish???

His mother told him he was involved in a crash on returning from an Op and only three of the crew made it out of the Aircraft obviously Jan was one of them.

Any GEN would be a great help.

    Many thanks

    Al

    Hi
Pokt should read pokł. and it is short for pokładowy - board.
Yes, it is perfectly possible he was transfered from the army, and the time frame is correct. I cannot help with his service details, but you can obtain those documents from MoD, Polish section Northolt, if you have NoK permission and spare 30 GBP. Reputedly, those files are to be released, but I do not know, when it is going to happen.

    Hi Al,

I will check a book of Polish personnel later if there will be any additional info.

I am not sure if it is him but I found one airman of his name with 307 Sq - but as he is as Officer it might be only the compliance of surnames.

I have a listing of Polish bomber and special ops air crews that suffered fatalities on operations during WW2 and he is not among surviving members of any such crews. So this may have been during training, or perhaps during post-war service if he joined the RAF.

He is listed as arrested in Brześć area in 1940. His father was Paweł (Paul). Do you have his date & place of death?

    Hi

I will find out the details you need as to DOD and POD.

Paul's Mum lived in Bare near Morecambe in Lancashire but I'm not sure if his dad lived there though.

I will only see Paul next week now.

    Cheers

    Al
