    Hi Bill,

Not sure if your still interested about A.10?

A.10 (or GQ1622 ) was Hamburg (Grasbrook II) Rhenania Ossag Mineralolwerk A.G

Hi Steve - Air 14/3726 has a seemingly random 10-page target list, almost certainly from early 1944. It's a mixed bunch of targets though, no obvious reason for them being grouped together and there's absolutely no explanation with it.

A related question - does anyone have a list of Aiming Points for area targets? Form A from H.Q.B.C. tends to order targets as '1,250 yards/345 degrees Berlin B' but I've never seen a list giving the details for e.g. Berlin A and Berlin B.

    Cheers,

    Richard

    Hello Steve

I have searched 7 large notebooks twice now as I feel certain I have seen what you want! But my eyes are not locating the note and my brain sometimes playing tricks (health) imagining that I have read and noted something with Cat reference etc., with the 1940 target letter/numbers.

However, I have managed to find the following notes for No.3 Group only:-

AIR 14/2370 No. 3 Group Operational Records.

Targets attacked by No. 3 Group September 1939 - May 1945 (similar to AIR 14/2369) but no Squadrons listed. 14/15th August 1940 confirms Blaye [Bordeaux].

AIR 14/2369 Sept 1939 - May 1945 No. 3 Group Operational Records. Record of attacks carried out by No. 3 Group, 66 sheets lists a) date; b) Target and c) Squadron.

    14/15th August [1940] Blaye 38 & 115 on Sheet 11.

I will have another look, as it is important to satisfy myself too, as to whether it was noted.

    Regards Mark

Default 1940 Directives to Bomber Command

    Steve

I have had a terrible job finding the TNA file reference I promised you and only found it from my sub-list of file references of interest, which referred to a view date, which then enabled me to locate it in my notebooks. I obviously missed my note twice!

If you have a query about the TNA Catalogue reference, my reference is 102/09.

    My note as follows:-

"AIR 20/2060" "Directives to Bomber Command D of Ops Home" noted.

"Contains details of when bombing ops were [first] approved, targets, with target numbers, names and oil stored etc."
    [Example noted] "Mentions Ambes, Pauilac"
[being Bordeaux targets 14/15th August 1940, Oil were Z target numbers].

My poor memory is unreliable, but leads me to think that all targets (other than oil) are also listed for this 1940 period?

    Hope this helps, regards Mark

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for taking the time to look this up.

I am at the NA next week and Air20/2060 will be the first file I look up and copy.

    Thanks again.

    Default TNA Industrial Action

    Hello Steve

I really hope it covers all the 1940 types besides 1940 oil, I seem to think so. I was always very religious about recording the file number, file cover title (and any original file refs on the cover in other cases), before making any notes immediately underneath. You will note the TNA description is similar.

    INDUSTRIAL ACTION
By the way on Wednesday 20th March, the National Archives are having Industrial Action and suggesting Readers don't go, due to slow production times when ordering documents. See TNA web-page.

We waited 1.5 to 2 hours on a previous industrial action for file production and had no advance order!

    Regards Mark

    Default D.2. Bismarck

    Steve

Not sure if you will find this one or not, but the German ship BISMARCK was detailed as "D.2. (Bismarck)" in August 1940, by HQBC., as an option depending upon the weather, on the night my Grandfather was killed.

    Regards Mark

    Hello Steve

When you looked at that AIR 20 file, did you come across a mid August 1940 Target for Royan France, near the mouth of the Gironde?
    Thanks
    Mark
