Default Crash of 19 Sqdn Spitfire P7425 at Albury Herts., 31/7/41.

    Hello,

I can find nothing on the 'net about the above Spitfire loss apart from the pilot having abandoned the aircraft.

Does anyone have the reason for the bale-out and the name of the pilot ?

    TIA.

    a15.

    Hi Ian,

Abandoning an airworthy aircraft for no apparent valid reason does not look good.

I wonder what the repercussions were for this pilot. A red logbook entry and posting away, at the very least, I should think.

    Thank you for the information.

    Regards,

    Ray.

    Hello Ray,

Yes I suspect he got more than smacked legs.

Via Flightglobal I found a ref to a F/Sgt R J Howard {142 sqdn} winning a DFM in 1945 - no service number given, wonder if the same man. If so looks like he redeemed himself and some.

We need a DFM expert to pick up this post.

    Regards,

    Ian
