    Bart,

    According to p20 of Gordon Thorburn's squadron history, 'Bombers First and Last':

    29 May [1940], Honington: 'AC2 W E Middleton was accidentally shot and died of his injuries.'

    Hello Errol,

    Thanks - so he's a victim of the 'invasion scare', I guess.

    Bart,

    Following on from Errols post.

    Just checked the Station Records Book for RAF Honington, there is nothing mentioned at all. The No.9 (B) squadron ORB records the following ;

    May 29th 1940 : FATAL ACCIDENT : 613210 A.C.2 Middleton W.C accidently shot and died of injuries"

    Thanks, Steve

    So I guess it will remain a mystery by whom he was shot and what caused the accident to happen. May William Middleton rest in peace.

    Regards,

    Bart
