Barracuda crashes, Sept 1941

Does anyone have a list of Fairey Barracuda crashes during the month of September in 1941?

I have been told of a crash in Northumberland around this time but I suspect 1941 to be too early for a Barracuda loss, unless it is a very early production model.

Any help would be appreciated.

The two prototype Barracudas were the only ones flying in 1941 and neither crashed in Northumberland. Production aircraft began coming off the line in May 1942.

Many thanks Ian, my suspicions have proved correct. Another note I have from a different source suggested that the aircraft was an Albacore, do you have a record of any Albacore losses during that time?

I don't see any Albacores or Fulmars down in Northumberland in 1941 listed by Sturtivant & Burrows.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for checking. It would appear some sort of Naval aircraft came down in this area in Sept 1941. I am awaiting some info back from another source so I will report back if I find anything which may help identify this one.

Apparently the aircraft was en-route to Prestwick when it crashed.

It includes some FAA personnel of various ranks who were killed or died of wounds received in air crashes.

There might be a lead there for you.

Many thanks for that list. Once I get some more info I will use it to cross-reference. I suspect however that this aircraft was merely a crash landing with no fatalities which is why I have no record of it already.

Hi folks.

Looks like this aircraft actually crashed in Sept 1943. Pilot walked away from the aircraft after a forced landing. Rear wheel ripped off and wreckage scattered across the field so it took some damage.

Anyone got any ideas on an identity of the aircraft or pilot?
