There is no S/L Dettmer listed in either the 1966 AFL or 1966 RL.

Two words of caution - well two sentences actually!

First, he would only appear in the Retired List if he had held a permanent commission. Had he been in for war service only then he would not have appeared in the Retired List.

Second, and others will know better than me about personal numbers, he might have been one of those foreign nationals whose names were not shown publically post-war to protect family members living in communist controlled countries.

A search of one of the websites dealing with Electoral Rolls/phone numbers etc might show the name, although I suspect the man himself may have departed.

    Checked the website 192.com.

Two Hundred Dettmers listed - take your pick.

I would search for offspring using Findmypast or FreeBMD and then track from there.

    Good Luck

    Paul/Colin,
Dettmer is of Germanic origin. The London Dettmers made pianos, etc. There is a Dettmer (in the piano trade) with the English George as a forename. It would seem that your Allan George Dettmer might be related? Try this bloke http://www.kellawayhouse.co.uk/dettmer.htm. You might hit the jackpot! On the other hand, you might be invited to go forth and multiply! Some y'win, some y'lose!
