Default 1 October 1940 victory to Flt Lt Tony Lovell, 41 Sqn

I have conflicting information on a victory claimed by Flt Lt Tony Lovell on 1 October 1940 and was hoping someone on the forum might be able to help, please.

It appears he shot down an Me109 of either JG1 or JG51, Wknr 5814, 9+, which crahed at Shadoxhurst, southwest of Ashford, and its pilot Fw Gorneth or Uffz Garnith baled out and was captured.

Can anyone clarify any of this, please?

Also, a secondary question, is there a list of Luftwaffe POWs available somewhere similar to Ross' Allied POWs list?

    Thanks
    Steve

    Default 1 October 1940

1./JG51 Messerschmitt Bf109E-4 (5814). Engine caught fire under attack by F/O A.D.J. Lovell of No.41 Squadron during escort sortie over Ashford and abandoned over ‘Chequers’, Church Lane, Shadoxhurst, 4.50 p.m. FF Uffz Eduard Garneth baled out and captured unhurt on landing near Hengherst. Aircraft White 9 + 100% write-off.
Shattered Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine recovered by the Lashenden Air Warfare Museum which presented part to the pilot’s widow. Site subsequently investigated by members of the Wealden Aviation Archaeological Group who discovered engine badge, now held by Andy Saunders.

All Lw personnel lost or captured during operations over the UK during WWII are documented in The Blitz Then & Now series which is fully indexed.

    Brilliant, thanks Peter

I've just gone and ordered Vols 1 and 2 - AUD$115.00 together!!! - but it sounds like the investment will be worth it.

    Cheers

Default Lw losses in UK 1939/40

    Steve,

Costly I know but I'm confident that you won't be disappointed.
