    Default F/S George Rhys Evans - 656618 - Died 3/1/44 - 405 Sqd

    Afternoon all,

Information required on the above airmen:-

    Serial No;

    Possible crash site.

Checked BC Losses for the above loss but found no entry concerning F/S Evans as there seems to be no 405 Sqd loss for that day.

Extracted Base, Aircraft and Code from the relevant 1944 volume. His date of death as quoted on the CWGC website.

    Many thanks.

    Steve.

It was an 83 Squadron aircraft loaned to 405 Squadron

Lancaster ND330. Details of loss and crew here:

    Hi Steve,
Look on page 23 of BCL 1944. The a/c (ND330) was on loan from 83 Sqn and Bill has listed it there, rather than under 405 Sqn. The crew were all from 405 Sqn and, as the a/c took off from Gransden Lodge, it was part of 405's force on that raid.
    Regards,
    Doug.

    Hi Doug and Amrit,

Thanks ever so much for putting me on the right road to discovering the information required.

It shows how new I am at this. Maybe next time I should read more fully the losses for any dates asked for instead of taking it as read that it is the squadron aircraft quoted.

Maybe I will learn more by making the odd mistake here and there.

    Cheers lads.

    Steve.
