    Default Spitfire BL531 structural failure, 8 June 1943

    This a/c, from 165 Sqn, Ayr, lost its wings in a dive and crashed at Auchmillan Hill Farm, Ayrshire on 8 June 1943. Does anyone know the i/d of the pilot please?

    Another from the list !

    BL531 Spitfire Vb 165 Sqdn. Crashed at Auchmillan Hill Farm, Ayrshire 2030 hrs. Cat E. Formation exercise a/c turned right in cloud and went into a spiral dive at 8,000 ft. Mainplane came off before hitting ground, fire on impact, P/O J.D.Gordon 116224 killed June 8, 1942.
