    Can anyone provide an identity and pilot name for the Spitfire which ditched off Grimsetter, Orkney on 18 December 1943 please?

    Pilot of MB765 of 453 Sqdn was F/Sgt. J. W. Scott of Queensland , Australia.

    Thanks - I had MB765, which as your reference says, sustained Cat B damage. According to Air-Britain MA-MZ serials and Morgan & Shacklady, the a/c went on the serve with Skeabrae SF, not being SOC until 1948.

    So, I think either the report of a Spitfire ditched off Grimsetter in the Castletown ORB is wrong (or a mix-up with the f/l of MB765) or there was another incident altogether. Curiously, the Royal Commission for Ancient & Historic Monuments for Scotland has a ditched Spitfire in Inganess Bay in their CANMORE database! It's ID nr.287299.
