    Default 35 Squadron DH9A

35 Squadron ORB's for 1929 state that it was initially equipped with five Airco / DeHavilland DH9a light bomber airframes and four Liberty engines. Additional DH9a were obtained bringing its aircraft strength up to twelve by 30th September 1929.

I am trying to see if I can establish the relevant Serial Numbers and I have been provided with the following information from Malcolm (RAFWEB) (Source: ’The DH4/DH9 File’ by Ray Sturtivant and Gordon Page):

    J7316 arrived 10 Oct 1929
    J7799 arrived in Jun 1930
    J8127 no dates given
J8143 ‘4’ arrived 8 Mar 1929, WO in landing trials in Jun 1929
    J8213 arrived Dec 1929 left Jan 1930
    J8482 ‘2’ 1929 – 1930

Is anyone able to add to this list?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    Pete

    Hi

Can only see one other in AB File........................J 7306

Squadron rundown in back says first five aircraft delivered Bircham Newton 8.3.29.

J 7316 you list, AB says arrived 8.3.29

J 8482 crashed in sea during palisde trials on HMS Glorious 1930

    regards Peter

Thanks for the feedback; could you just explain the line "Squadron rundown in back says first five aircraft delivered Bircham Newton 8.3.29".

Are you saying that the first five on Malcolm's listing were delivered 8th March or is it just a general comment that five DH9A were delivered on that date?

    Regards

    Default 35 Squadron DH9A

DH9A J8137 '3' also used by 35 Sqdn (Palisade trials aboard HMS Glorious, probably March 1930, after the DH9As were replaced by Fairy IIIFs). Source http://www.iwmcollections.org.uk

When 35 Sqdn reformed at Bircham Newton on 1 March 29 it was given five DH9As and four Liberty engines from store. Source Aircraft Illustrated May 79 p230

Thanks for all the feedback to date; much appreciated.

If the ORB's are correct, I still have a few more to find.
